Creative Draping

Inspired by Dior's New Look and the modern, structural skirts of designer Mark Bumgarner, this was my final project of my graduate program. The dress is built onto a strapless foundation that is stitched to the skirt under-structure. The skirt structure is made of nylon horsehair yardage with 1/2" bones in the seams and rigilene and 1/4" bones running throughout. A layer of baby flannel mulls the structure and ice wool mulls the strapless foundation. The dress is made of duchess satin with embroidered appliques, decorated with sequins. The asymmetrical jacket is made of a brushed wool melton. Spiral bones hold up the pleated collar in the back. The jacket closes with covered snaps and has an interior belt to hold it in place.
